The derelict building next to Earlsfield station has been a source of intrigue for thousands of commuters over the years.
But in recent months, the intrigue has moved on to excitement as the development of The Earlsfield moved swiftly on.
Tonight was the launch night and Matt and I went along for a sneak peek.
We’ve been peering through the windows for months (Matt’s a surveyor) but the inside surpassed our expectations in every way.
We’d been invited for canapes and drinks but it was the decor we were initially interested in on this occasion.
The building is the old ticket office which has been in disrepair since long before we moved to Earlsfield.
Now it is classy, modern and beautiful.
The back room with designer bird wallpaper and Victorian style-tiled floor will be the perfect place to wile away a Sunday afternoon or to host a private party.
The bar area is airy with great views of the stunning wooden ceiling and bare brickwork.
The main eating area is in a tunnel which can be seen from inside the station which has comfy booths and tables to enjoy the delicious-sounding food.
The attention to detail is spot on with every little aspect thought through.
I realise this is a food blog and I haven’t written much about the food, but we did get to sample a few morsels tonight.
The Earlsfield is owned by the same people who run the Cattle Grid restaurants in south London which are known for their ribs and red meat.
Plates of ribs were circulated around the guests and we snapped them up when offered. They were juicy with a hint of spice and dripping in BBQ sauce and we know we could eat a plate of 12 of them in a flash.
We sampled the butternut squash and radiccio risotto balls, which were also delicious and the pork belly tempura bites with sesame sauce were really unique and tasty.
The vegetable samosas with chipotle sauce were also something I would definitely order in the future.
The wine, beer and cocktail list is really original and clearly well researched. It has everything from traditional cocktails, to local beers and ales and wine from all over the world.
The Earlsfield is a totally new venue for SW18 which already has a great variety of pubs and restaurants – as written about here.
But I think this has the potential to be a standout establishment which offers something different. The venue is stunning, no expense has been spared on the design and the menu is fun and exciting.
We’re going back next week for a full rack of ribs, the chorizo and sweetcorn fritters, naTchos (not a typo) and lots of cocktails!
